Tried something today that I hadn’t done before and was pleasantly surprised by the results. I remember someone asking about this recently, so thought I might share the method I used. Had to trim 16″ of of an existing HPL countertop and remove a base cabinet to install a fulll height finished panel.
Was concerned about chipping the laminate and getting a nice straight cut for the panel to butt up against. I clamped a 1×4 flat onto the remaining counter as a guide, put a metal cutting segment blade in the Fein, and scored the laminate.
I’d figured on using a combination of jigsaw and sawzall to cut the particle board substrate but the Fein was working so well, I put a courser toothed blade and zinged right through all the way to the wall, all this while the curious homeowner breathed down my back.
Crisp, clean cut, looks like it was routed…success! I love this tool!
By the way the blades I used were from the ebay vender….at least as good as Fein’s, I’d say…and a little cheaper.

Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.
