I’d like some opinions on an hardwood floor installation technique. I’m wondering what should be used under a hardwood floor felt paper or rosin paper, every one has there own ideas. What is the right installation method

The wood flooring manufacture assciation still calls out felt paper.
But whether that or rosin paper is used seems to be regional.
The original purpose of the felt was so that reduce moisture and dirt coming through diagonal sub-floor boards and houses where build over basements with dirt floors or vented crawlspaces.
Houses are no longer built like that. But felt is still speced.
Either one will serve as slip paper to help reduce sqeaking.

Tarpaper better except when rosin paper is best.
Resin paper is cheaper and lays flatter.
Tarpaper resists moisture migration, but it can offgas a stink over radiant heat, and it can mark up walls.
Sometimes this and sometimes that.

Like the other kids wrote, I use felt unless over radiant floor heat.
Personaly, I'd prefer to always use rosin paper...but I use felt.
