So…I’m in the shop yesterday fixing tools and I wander over and start playing with my new Makita 10″ slider. I get to looking at that 1″ high fence on the right side and wonder what they were thinking. Don’t get me wrong…I love this saw, but that fence… Then I did something unprecedented…I picked up the instruction manual and started to read it! What I found is that Makita makes an accessory fence extension (for height, not length) for the right hand side of the LS1013! It is sold seperately of course, so last night I spent about 3 hours searching for one on the web, with no luck. Anyone find one of these? Know where I can order one? Know of a website that I don’t know of that sells Makita accessories?? Help, ignorance was bliss, but now I know they make it so I GOTTA have it!

my saw came with one.
i don't bother with it. it doesn't seem to sit flush with the main fence.
i have been thinking about making a 3" high auxillary fence as i don't cut much stuff 12" wide.
on another note does anyone know how to adjust the fence so that the face is perpendicular to the table??

you need to call Louis Williams & Sons of Hendersonville, NC 828-692-8216, if they don't have it or can't get it, it doesn't exist.
they are THE Makita distributor of the universe- you have never seen ANY store carry such a phenomenally complete line of ANY company's products. (oh man! i just remembered- yesterday was Miss Makita Day)

Oh sure, NOW you tell us. Missed Miss Makita day- an international holiday for tool lovers and posteer collectors around the globe.
Guess we'll live through it though.

This thread reminded me of a question I needed to ask.
My LS1013 binds on a long crosscut, causing a burn on the wood and has almost stopped the blade. Been this way out of the box. Had it to the shop and they said it was the factory blade so I got another blade. Didn't help. Got another blade. Same binding. Don't know how I got through that mantle with accurate cuts.
Are there any tracking adjustments that I can make or should I try to return the saw to Makita? No nothing in the paperwork that came with the saw about adjustments for this type of problem and I haven't decided to experiment - yet. I use this saw almost exclusively in the shop and take another to the job so it doesn't see daily use. Have gone back to the old RAS - it doesn't bind.
What say you???
mine did that an i put up with it for a couple of years, until it occured to me to check to see if the fence was straight.
sure enough the 2 sides of the fence were out of line so the timber got pinched.
new fence £20 no problems since.

Ralph,
My buddy's 1013 does the same thing...it's the fence. If you put a straightedge along it you can see the bow away from the straightedge in the middle. I don't know whey he puts up with it. He's very an*l about his tools but turns a blind eye to this obvious flaw.If it were my saw, I would remove the fance and grind it flat.
I bought a 1013 yesterday, and before I took it out of the store, I took it out of the box and checked the fence. I would not have bought it if the fence was not flat.

Thanks to you guys for pointing out the fence problem, something I should have been able to see on my own.
Had a conversation with a Makita Rep (800-4 MAKITA) and got a new fence on the way at warantee prices (NO charge). Dropped off the saw at the local shop and found that Makita was aware of this type of fence problem. Shop manager said Makita has been replacing fences all over the place. I think they have either a redesign or better quality control.
So, the prudent thing for all the LS1013 owners to do would be to check out their fences on a long push cut through a denser material to see if there is a binding or end grain burning problem and get a new free fence if necessary.
