I’m finishing up a fence. Nothing fancy. 6′ PT dog ear pickets and PT posts. There is a 6′ opening to be filled with 2 gates. I’m looking for ideas on hardware. Something better, maybe, then from a big box.
Also looking for ideas on how to hold them shut. One gate will be used most of the time. The second one is to allow a big enough opening to get a trailer in and out now and then. I have typically seen a rod on one that drops into a hole and then the typical latch hardware on the other. The gates are in the middle of a concrete patio. My concern is that the hole will fill with water in the winter and freeze making the rod hard to pull up but more significantly busting the concrete from the pressure of the water freezing. I’m also concerned with something surface mounted to the patio to latch the one gate as I see that as a tripping point when both gates are open.

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.
