I live in an older home with a traditional chain link fence. The fence is older. The posts and top rail are constructed with galvanized pipe which is showing it’s age. Is it possible to paint these pipes with spray cans? I tried a small segment and it seem to hold paint.
Thanks for your input.

Yes, it's possible to paint galvanized pipes used in chain link fences with spray cans. However, there are some important steps to follow to ensure good adhesion and longevity of the paint:
Clean the Surface: Before painting, thoroughly clean the surface of the galvanized pipes to remove any dirt, grease, or rust. You can use a mild detergent solution and a wire brush or sandpaper to scrub the surface clean. Rinse with water and allow the pipes to dry completely.
Apply Primer: Galvanized surfaces can be challenging for paint to adhere to, so it's essential to apply a primer specifically designed for use on galvanized metal. Choose a high-quality primer that is compatible with both metal and spray paint. Apply the primer according to the manufacturer's instructions and allow it to dry completely.
Choose the Right Paint: Select a spray paint that is suitable for use on metal surfaces and is designed to provide durable, long-lasting protection. Look for a paint labeled as suitable for use on galvanized metal or metal surfaces. Shake the spray can thoroughly before use and apply the paint in thin, even coats, holding the can about 6-8 inches away from the surface.
Apply Multiple Coats: To achieve good coverage and durability, it's recommended to apply multiple thin coats of paint rather than a single thick coat. Allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next one. Follow the manufacturer's recommended drying times between coats.
Protect Surrounding Areas: When painting the galvanized pipes, take care to protect surrounding areas from overspray. Use masking tape and drop cloths to cover nearby surfaces, plants, or objects to prevent them from being accidentally painted.
Allow Proper Drying Time: After applying the final coat of paint, allow the pipes to dry completely before handling or exposing them to moisture. Follow the manufacturer's recommended drying times to ensure that the paint cures properly and provides maximum durability.
By following these steps and using high-quality primer and spray paint designed for use on metal surfaces, you should be able to successfully paint your galvanized pipes and rejuvenate the appearance of your chain link fence.
Evidently this isn’t just a garden gate.
Spray cans?
Did you bother to mention where the paint goes that doesn’t hit the metal?
Kashif, you took a lot of time and words in this reply, or was it A I?
