Can anybody tell me how the archive database is accessed? I have run Linux exclusively for 20 years and I’m not going to buy another machine just for the FH archive.
The linux system provides several “clients”, programs which will access most database systems in use today. However, the advertising blurbs for the archive give no indication of what software protocol the archive actually responds to. Requiring a “Windows” or “Mac” system does not tell us anything at all. There are specific programs used to access data which will run _on_ the Windows or Mac platforms; however, the the Windows and Mac systems themselves do not perform database access.
There is some chance that a standard database is used because the archive is listed as compatible with Mac; Mac systems are a version of Unix and Linux was derived from Unix and, broadly speaking, provides similar services using similar protocols.
Or maybe it’s a series of flat files and that is no problem to access directly. However, since apparently it offers a search option there is every chance it’s provided as a database.
Or maybe the archive includes it’s own client program which starts and provides access when you click on the DVD icon.
Thanks for any info.

Rufus

Yes, this!
I just got my archive thumb drive, but I can't install it or view any of the files on my Linux laptop. Why isn't this a browser-based archive?
What are my options?
Tim,
I sent a message to FHB and hope they get you an answer soon.
Let me know if they make contact.
Thanks, Calvin.
I was thinking of importing all the PDFs into RoboHelp (on a Windows computer) and creating a help system that provides a TOC and a search of all the PDFs. Maybe I could make that available to others, if FHB is interested. That output should be available on any browser across systems.
Otherwise, if I can access the index/search online, I can still find the right edition and then search in the PDF for what I'm looking for. But I don't know if/how long I have access to that..
I’m a good carpenter but you lost me……
Hope assistance arrives tomorrow.
LOL. I've been building information systems more than houses lately. But I wish you were around to help with my next remodeling project!
