Fiber Cement Flashing Details (Under Deck Ledger)
Can someone point me in the right direction for finding a flashing detail for fiber cement siding on the underside of a new wood deck ledger? I plan on attaching a new 2x PT wood ledger directly over zip system sheathing. I’ll be installing new fiber cement siding on the underside (daylight basement wall). I was thiking about in-filling whatever space is left between the top piece of siding and bottom of deck ledger with either PVC or MiraTEC trim.
Also, at the bottom of this same wall I want to install a skirt board (again either PVC or MiraTEC) before I start my fiber cement siding – probably a 10″ wide board. If money were no object, I’d go with the Azek Universal Skirt Board with the integrated starter strip. Anyone have any ideas/detail on how to provide a similar system that cost less? Most starter strip details that I’ve seen are a continuous solid member. How does this work to allow drainage of any water that has penetrated the siding?

Here is what I would do
run a band of rooftopgaurdll about 2-1/2' wide around centered on where the 2x10 ledger will be placed. Nail it at top and leave it flap loose at bottom
Chaulk a line on it where the top of your ledger will be.
No rip sme PT plywood scrapes 8" wide x 4" or so
nail these on 16" oc with the top of each at the chaulk line.
Now you can bolt the ledger on through the pt scrap spacers. It will hang down below then at bottom and leave you a space to slide top of siding up in behind.
Above the ledger, you do your flashing out over the ledger and up under the siding.
Then the housewrap above the flashing.
Down under, the housewrap fits under the RTG, and preferably you have the flap loose still to fit it over a run of siding, triming it off after nailing on the next run
Flashing detail
Before you put your ledger board on, rabbit the bottom backside of the ledger so the siding can tuck up underneath the ledger. Then flash the top as you normally would. I would run a strip of ice and water shield behind the ledger before I bolted it to the house.
