Fiberboard versus Cement-board for tile

Hello all,
I am getting ready to install tile on my bathroom floor. I have 3/4 OSB over 16 on center framing. I have always used wonderboard (1/2″ cement-board) for tile installs, but am considering fiberboard because it is close to half the thickness. I would think that Wonderboard provides a stronger/stiffer base for tile, but what do I know…
Does anyone have any experiences/advice to share? Thanks for your time.

Jeff,
I assume that by "fiberboard" you are meaning Hardibacker in 1/4" thickness? If so, it is fine for floors, just as good as the 1/2" CBU you have been using. However, neither backer will add significant stiffness to your subfloor, even if glued. If you need stiffness, glue-laminating 1/2" plywood is a good way to go.
One more thing: Use screws and thinset to put down your backer. The thinset prevents downwards flex over dips in the subfloor when walked upon.
