The fill valve on my new TOTO toilet is bad. MY 3 one in 6 months! Plumbing supply house says its my water. I say thats way too fussy for a fill valve. Oh by the way I paid for the last 2! jeffysan

The most common way to make your own parging mix is to use either Type S mortar for block or Type N for brick and add a concrete bonding additive.

I'm not sure about fill valves, but I know grit in water chews up faucet valves.
That's one reason we put a whole house water filter in. Cut down on the plumbing faucet problems, and it makes the water taste better too! We went with a two stage (paper and charcoal) one.
Happens to me sometimes. There's a filter in the system that can get blocked with crud, but it can be cleaned out. Also, look very closely at the fill valve assembly, and you'll see a tiny aperture that a toothpick will clean out. Google Lavelle or Korky for more information. It's really simple to deal with, once you see how the valve works. The fill valve, which you should get a few of if you don't see how to clear it, is Model 528. Cheap by mail. By the way, I trust my plumber, and I have purchased three Totos from him, but when I asked him to help with the problem, he suggested that I switch to a Fluidmaster. I did laugh at him and took my own route to continued toilet sublimity by fixing the Korky myself. It's a much better valve than Fluidmaster, in my opinion (much quieter), even if it needs cleaning now and then. You also don't have to put the blue cap back on afterward. I think that's just eye wash.
