I like it, I spend alot of time building toolboxes out of scrap. I generally try to use hand tools only to build them as a way of increasing my skills. Learned hand planes work pretty well on plywood. What did you use for your finish on that box? High gloss oil polyurethane? Which tool is occupying the place of honor?

anyone notice the extra nail holes?
They weren't for air ...
in my quest for speed ... I made the outside dimension match the outside of the cardboard box which firmly held the planer ...
Guess what I learned?
1x maple is thicker than cardboard!
Who'da think it?
anyways ... a little glue smear and some extra nail holes never hurt nothing ...
about a hunert years from now ... the grandkids will be sitting around trying to figure out what the "extra" holes were for ... as Gramps was a master builder guy and he'd not put exrta holes in there unless ya needed them! ....
talk about lazyness too ... I just coated it today .. and tonight ... but before it even left the worksite ... it was already used as a step stoop ... as my little 2ft ladder was all the way out in the Jeep ... and it'd weight soo much to carry all the way back in ....

Well, I did. And I wondered, Hmmm, do you suppose he toenailed? Why would he do that. Actually that was my second and more charitable thought. My first thought was, Fupped duck, eh?
best part ...
I get home ...
I'm poly'ing it ...
and the wife walks into the kitchen ...
takes a look ...
say ... Wow, that's nice. Where'd you BUY that .....
told her I met a carpenter on the way to work last Fri and HE built it for me ...

Jeff,
I like to build the same sort of stuff. It feels very satisfying carrying your tools around in something that you crafted. It really doesn't matter how great of a creation it is, just that you care enough about your tools to house and protect them. You make a living using those tools and I feel that how you take care of your tools is a reflection of how seriously you view yourself and your craft.
I see too many tradespeople who just toss their tools in their pickup bed just to be banged around and rained on. They may feel that a case takes up too much room or is too much of a bother to construct. But they don't realize that they are sacrificing the tools lifespan, accuracy, and effectivness in the process.
I commend you on your efforts.
