Fine Foamboarding for the Fastidious
My trim router tool case has been a mess with bits banging into each other and getting dull before I even open the case… foamboard and a scroll saw to the rescue. I traced the shape of the bit storage lids onto the FB and cut it to fit the odd shape of the case. Some holes I drilled at an angle (not much head space), some bits and things I pinned to the FB with electrical cable staples.

Great idea... I made some for shop storage out of oak, and I'm guessing the tannins rusted a few shafts... looks like you've got another tip to send in<G>
We'll have a kid
Or maybe we'll rent one
He's got to be straight
We don't want a bent one

Someday he may be president
If things loosen up
The bit blocks I have in the shop are oak too... haven't noticed any appreciable rust though. I also made a foam bit block that fits in a plastic bin. The foam is actually hard to drill... bit wants to wander and the foam tears out, etc. My solution is a pegboard as drill guide. Keeps the bit from wandering, stops tearout, and gives you evenly spaces holes. I use 3/16" hole for the 1/4" shanks for a snug fit. Maybe another tip worth submitting. :o)
Are you using a drill press? Most of my bits are 1/2" so I'll bump up your tip to 7/16". Yer on a roll!http://www.tvwsolar.com

I just used a cordless drill, but a drill press would be good. How about a discussion of Pocket Protectors.I like old fashioned fixed blade utility knives and sharp chisels... but they eventually cut holes in tool belt pockets. Stuff a piece of foamboard into the bottom of the pockets and they won't get cut up.

I used to squeeze a blob of construction adhesive in the botom of my knife holder. I preferred to carry the fixed blade style of untility knife and found that the blob would save the bottom of the sheath too.
