One of my long term goals is to have a small finish carpentry company. I always find good information at this site and was hoping that some of you in this line of work would pass on some advice and anecdotes. I love the work, now you tell me, does it work?

Ummmm, I'm a finish carpenter, have a small company, and, I work. So, what's your question.
Gotta tell you though, it's not my long term goal.
Do they still have trade schools in your locality? BB
*Sather,Yes it works. Start by hiring your services to general contractors you know. If you do a good job, they'll call back. Home owners are a one time shot. You can't build a business on them. It takes general contractors who build year in and year out to make a trim company work. Good luck,Ed. Williams
*Well, if you're going to work for the Finns, first of all you have to learn the language. ( and I think you have to like saunas and rolling around in the snow and getting a flogging with birch sticks too ).
*What is your long term goal? Curious about that one. Yes they have trade schools, but I have been working for cash, rather than paying it out, as a carpenter type for five years. Still a young pup in the profession, but on my way to enjoying it for many years. I was just curious because I enjoy finish work the most and it doesn't leave my maimed and broken at the end of the day (although there is something to be said for sheer exhaustion).SE
*As long as we're on the subject, I'd be working for the Swedes. They enjoy many of the same activities, and tend to pay better. Living in North Idaho, I have to add skiing and ale quaffing to the list.SE
*Blinding flash of light! I just got it. I've been going around all day, thinking "Poor Mark, the heat must've finally got 'im, he's just, like, rambling."But I got it!
