My clients have a covered outside porch with clear fir flooring. They’re looking for a glossy, deep finish that lets the wood grain show through. I thought of multiple coats of marine varnish but wasn’t sure if it would stand up to foot traffic. We’re in southern NY so freeze/thaw and moisture are issues. Any ideas?

UV degradation from the sun will likely be your worst enemy, if there are windows facing S,W, or E.
Marine varnish will be dangerously slick when moist, unless you add sand or similar to the second-to-last coat. The traction additive sort of spoils the deep glossy look.
Hydrocoat 'Polyshield" Available at Highland Woodworking. It has UV inhibs like Spar Varn and better abrasion resistance. Higher price tho'.
