Finish nailer recommendations (15ga)

| Posted in Tools for Home Building on January 29, 2004 07:22am

I’m looking to purchase a 15ga finish nailer, but don’t really know which one to go with.  I am looking at the Dewalt, Porter Cable DA250, Senco FinishPro35, XP41.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.  I own other Dewalt guns and PC guns, have worked alot with Senco.  Just wondering if there is anything I should be aware of on these guns.

Thanks in adavance

Craig

I bought an XP41 last year and have been extremely happy with it, but I cannot say I have used it hard. It's done everything I asked of it with no problems at all.

This thread comes up all the time on this site.  Try searching through the archives for 15 ga nailer and I'm sure you'll find many discussions.

Having said that, I got a Bostitch 15-ga nailer for Xmas.   I haven't used it that much yet, but I really like it so far.

Pros: Lightweight, oil free, neat method for clearing jams (hasn't jammed yet), good power, cheaper than the senco.  Gets top ratings on Amazon/Toolcrib, which is why I asked for it.

Cons: Nails are not the same as the common DA type used in P-C and Senco, etc, and only come in big packs of 3000 or so.  (not a problem if you are a contractor, a little inconvenient if you are a DIY.)  Also it's a little louder than I expected.

Craig: Don,t pass up looking at the Bostitch N62fnk-2. It an  OIL LESS tool that has plenty of power 400 in./lbs. with a power to weight ratio of 105. I've used this tool , and I couldn't find a piece of wood that it wouldn't  drive a nail thru . Check out the web site. Good luck.

buy a MAX or Hitachi, best money youll spend on a finish nailer.   After those two id go senco.

Buy Hitachi, can't go wrong. Senco is also a very good choice. Never had a Max, but it comes highly recomended from my one sub.

i have a porter cable finish nailer and the brad gun... love em both

the finish nailer came in the combo kit with the pancake compressor and 50 ' of hose

look around the combo is pretty reasonable even if you have a compressor already its a good deal for $239 or so

i do know bostitch has a nice brad gun 1/2 to 2 1/2 18 guage nails

yer lucky or I got a lemon..PC fin. nailer is junk at it's best. The feed spring is weak , the feed opening for nail entry is crap (actually gone on mine)  you cannot reload a full clip unless it is totally empty..miss fires every 3 nails..want mine?

      bostich..runs circles around a PC

i'm very suprised about that. I have had no problems with the guns. We have them at work as well. I do know they offer the new triggers for the brad and fin gun you have to give them the serial number to order them. but other than that I just deal with the stock trigger. Did you try their customer service?

negatory on customer service..just mothballed it until I can do that..been kinda busy.  If that coiled up metal spring was designed with some tension in it, I am sure it would help, but unless it is more than a half clip full it wont push the nails. And ya cant load a half clip exactly even when ya do cut em apart..it actually works a little better with senco stainless nails..at a gazillion bucks a box..and yes, I cleaned it, oiled it, un-oiled it, cursed it and all the incantations to exorcise the demons ..it still is a POS.

I know it wasn't in your list, but I am going to add another vote for the Bostitch N62FNK-2

    Really light and well balanced.

    I love mine, muchly.

I have used that little slammin hammer for years, way before I came to Breaktime.

The hammer used to smack a nail that popped back out.

Then one day I saw that Pro Deck had used the same hammer, so I edited it to squash the B.

Seems like when I first came to BT, there was a wider use of ani gifs.View Image

            Oh, didn't understand the question.

It is living online at my angelfire web mess, which is just used as storage and as a place to share some photos.

First step is to find a nice animated gif that you like and then give it a home somewhere on the net. If you don't have a place, send it to me and I'll host it for you.

Do not link to it where you find it, that is a bad thing, and can have some very bad results.

Then you copy the address and put it in the form of an anchor, like this

            <img src=http://www.angelfire.com/mo3/briansstuff/hammerand_b.gif>

and put that html code in your signiture file, then whenever you post it will be on your post.

As far as finding a good animated gif, there are tons of places to find them.

I may have a few different hammers, too. Let me know and I will show them to you.View Image

I'm not so keen on Bostich- real leary of the quality.  I had a brad naier and stapler that wouldn't drive the fasteners all the way down, so I took the nailer & stapler back.  I know tho old Bostich nailers were bulletproof.

        briankeith | Jan 30, 2004 11:18pm | #16

That's why there are all those sizes, shapes, and brands out there.

I have had excellent service from all my Bostitch nailers and staplers.

A plus for me is that my local lumber yard is on the Bostitch Swat Team tour, so the fellows keep them all in new seals and rings.

Oh, I also have a Senco stapler, that is top drawer.

Also, a coule of fine wire Duo Fast staplers that are older that some of the menebers here. Now those babies are truly outstanding tools. Old enough that there have never seen a safety.

Whatever you decide on, be sure and let everyone know how it works out for you.

        best regards,

        BrianView Image
