I designed a house on the eastern end of Long Island that is nearing completion, and I am interested in how the houses siding should be maintained. The house is about 1000 ft from the Atlantic Ocean, behind dunes, two other houses and a lot of privit hedge – The air is salty and wet, but not wind blown. The siding is Western red cedar with a 6″ horrizontal modified “German” ship lap. The siding was prefinished in the field using Sikens Formula 77. I believe the GC had treated it on all sides using a roller. The siding has been in place for approx 1 year and we are discussing the application of a additional coat of (something?) What is the best way to hande this?
