I’ll be finishing cherry cabinets and trim on a commercial job-but the building manager wants me to use water-based urethane even though I have solvent based spec’d in the contract. It seems one individual in the upstairs office had major fit when we used some oil based paint on a steel door and registers, and we can no longer use “toxic” chemicals.
I tried it on some cherry, and the grain looks completly washed out and pale. What I was wondering, if anyone knew if the WB urethane could be applied over tung oil or danish oil. My feeling is that the oil would be relatively low-oder, and bring out the depth and beauty of the cherry, while a couple of coats of the WB urethane would give the protection that the cabinets and woodwork need.
Thanks, John
