I’m putting a new bathroom in. In the shower stall, I used Cement Backer Board for the walls and greenboard for the ceiling. I’m now ready to tile and realized the tile is only going about 6 feet up the wall, leaving the other 2 feet exposed backer board.
What’s the best way to finish off the non-tile area? Do I smear drywall compound over the CBB to give it a smooth surface. Suggestions welcome.

Art- I was curious as to the reasons for not continuing the tile on up to cover the backerboard?
There's no reason why I couldn't. It would just be more materials and time....
Yes, smoothcoat the exposed backer board with drywall compound, using mesh tape in wall corners and at wall/ceiling joints.

You can also cut out the backboard you won't be using and replace with drywall. Depending on the circumstances, you might find this easier than finishing the backerboard.
Wouldn't tiling the rest of it be easier and quicker than taping and skimcoating the exposed board?
My wife also seems to have no problem with tiling to the ceiling, so it appears that it'll be the least amount of work.
Thanks for the guidance

If your ceiling is not level, its going to scream at you every time you look at the tile cuts. (assuming you install the tile level)J. D. Reynolds
