I am working on a 5 yo house with unique stair design. Stairs come up to a small landing from both sides then continue up from the other half of the landing to the two seperate sides of the house. It looks like an X when viewed from the side.
The homeowner wants the carpet removed and the stairs finished. The stairs are pre-fab fiber board units. She is willing to accept a painted surface, but then I would have the trouble of sealing the fiber board and trying to get a smooth finish. She would prefer hardwood, but even if I used the thinnest material I would still have a very thick bull nose to deal with. There is no way she will accept replacing the existing pre-fab units. The treads will be covered with a carpet runner so wear is not my major concern.
Any suggestions?
Thanks guys,
Rich
