Anyone with advice on finishing a new residential white oak floor to keep the natural color of the wood, with just enough stain to highlight the grain and figure? thanks

I'd use orange shellac and paste wax - no stain - but you'll soon find out I'm in the minority. Looks great on my floors - 3 years now - 2 very active little kids and Chicago weather.
*I used b no stainso as to highlight b the grain. And your basic Minwax poly, 3 coats.Beautiful red oak floor.Jack : )PS- I like the Bill Conner "shellac ideas" and will experiment with it ASAP.

Best test I've tried so far is to add a little oil-soluble dye stain to tung oil sealer,
then topcoat with polyurethane. This seems
to darken the pores just enough without really
coloring the surface much at all.
