So I’ve air-sealed my attic in preparation for blow-in cellulose.
I’ve seen and read that “tents” should be made to cover recessed lights so there is no direct contact between hot lighting housings and insulation to avoid potential fire. I don’t have any lights of that nature in my attic, but i do have electrical junction boxes that have ceiling fans and other hanging light fixtures coming off of them. They’ve been in contact with the fiberglass batts (and/or its paper backing) for at least twenty years with no problems.
So my question is, if I add blow-in cellulose do i need to worry about tenting those junction boxes first? Or can I just blow in the cellulose over top of the fiberglass batts and be done with it?
Thanks for your thoughts.

We've had cells on top of our fixtures for 35 years. No fire yet.
One thing that's worth doing, though, is somehow covering the boxes to prevent air leaks. One idea is to run duct seal (electrician's putty) through a pasta press to make sheets and form the sheets over the backs of the boxes. Or just stick wads of duct seal in the openings. (Some people foam the openings, but I don't care for that approach since you end up with too much foam inside the box.)
Thanks.
Thanks, DanH.
Yeah I've done all the air sealing around the boxes as well.
So I think I'm good to go!

If there are boxes that you might not remember are there, it might behoove you to somehow mark their locations if the wiring is covered . Perhaps just a spritz of a bright colored spray paint on the underside of roof sheeting or the bottom of a rafter.
A bitch to go up in a properly insulated attic and have to hunt down a junction box-and hard to rake blown when there's fibreglass below.
Yeah, I've cut some foamcore strips and taped photos of the fixtures (indoor view of course) to the strips. Stapled those to the joists next to each junction box. So it locates the boxes and provides a depth marker as well.
