I’m re-doing a room and there is a weird FP in a rock wall that I need to deal with.
It is about 25″ above the floor, 24″ wide, and 36″ high. The interior is square.
The client wants it built in to a wall of cabinetry. I need to support a ridge overhead, so the cabinetry will be about 5″ in front of the stone surface. The original plan was to eliminate the FP, but that has changed.
My concern is codes, and the need to keep the cabinetry a long way from the opening, which will look pretty dorky.
There is no hearth.
What do i need to do here to remedy the situation?
Thanks, guys!

Sounds like you need to study on bringing the fireplace face forward. Since it is already high up, you have some room to corbel the flue back to it. The new one can be on floor level with a 30" height openning. How high is the chimney?
My other concern though is that with dimensions like this, it sounds like it was built by somebody who had never done it before and was doing it as cheap and easy as possible. That's a red light!
get a fireplace mason to inspect the whole thing and throw around ides with him.
