Made these last Saturday. Customer has a smokey arched fireplace. The opening was too large for the flue tile size and too tall for the damper location. He designed these hoods to close about 4″ off the opening and to have about a 5″ protrusion to catch any smoke that escapes. He’s got a matching built-in wood storage box beside the fireplace, so he had me make a second one for it.

Would you be doing any range hood ''covers''?

I've done a few in the past. I think I've only got pictures of one. I'll look.

What guage metal do you use for something like that?

It's 16 oz (about 25 ga) copper.http://grantlogan.net/

I would have suspected it would have had to be heavier. Seems like those would be subject to dents & bends, being inside near people activity & all. I guess the seams & edges stiffen it up enough?
Real purty stuff. I could never put something like that inside my own place -- My Lovely Assistant would have me polishing it every other day! ;-)

PS: I still owe you big time for the "how-to" on standing seam. Since it's right at eye level, it gives some major "wow factor" to the project. Wish I had more opportunities to do that kind of stuff.
Are we going to see what it looks like installed?

Grant,
Nice looking pieces! How will you attach these and what seal behind them if needed?
Walter
The attachment will be a copper cleat tapconned to the brick face. There is a corresponding cleat on the back of the hoods so they'll actually hang from the face. There's a flange riveted to the back of the hood that fits inside the fireplace arch.http://grantlogan.net/
