   At first I thought the center grill was a 150-watt exterior floodlamp.  I thought, " how could that be possibly nice"?  Be like a big eye staring at you.

   Forrest,
   I can see what you mean. The center design is actually repeated throughout the whole house. Art Deco design was the theme of this remodel.
   Have to admit it is unusual though, not just yet another variation on the common mantle. Fun project to build.

   There are a ton of fireplace mantles available, both new and architectural salvage. Many are priced inexpensively compared to building one. 9 out of 10 customers choose a manufactured one because of the price and design. Once in a while I do a custom mantle.

   Built this one last year, nothing too fancy ....My first one.
   lots of fun. client loved it.

   PS first time posting pics....some somehow i just know it's going to be too big. if so, any help with the re sizing would help.

   that worked!If you have Windows XP, you can download the "Image Resizer" Microsoft Powertoy. This installs into your right-click menu, so you just select the photo(s) you want to resize, right-click, select Resize Photos, choose the preset or custom size, and you're done. No third-party software required...http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe

   Thanks for the input.I do have windows XP pro on my PC AKA (my wife's computer), but most of the time I'm using my MAC to do everything. So I ended up using photoshop to resize the image that i posted earlier.I'm sure it takes me a bit longer to do it in Photoshop but at least i got a quick "how to post pics" lesson today. Its a great day if you learn something new.Thanks again
