What is the distance that I should have on the sides from the fire box?My bookcase will stick out from fireplace so what’s the distance do they need to be from open? My bookcase will be 22” deep on both sides. My tile hearth is 24” deep. I want to make the columns 6”wide 6”deep.the mantle will be 8”deep.

Need to refer to the manufacturer of the firebox. The inspector will require that over what is written in code. This is one instance that the manufacturers specs trumps the written code. This is the case in all the jurisdictions I’ve worked in. The installation packet will list the allowable distances for combustible materials. The inspector will require to see the specs as well to approve the work.
