I have a small living room and I’d like to replace the builder-grade, zero-clearance fireplace with something that actually works. Can an entertainment center be built on top of a fireplace? I want to put the fireplace/TV in a corner of the room so I’ll maximize the floorspace. I’ve looked at the Travis Xtrordinare and a few others, and it seems that fireplaces all vent straight up from the top. That would preclude putting the TV over top of the fireplace unless I placed it about 8 feet off the ground. Not so good.
Does anyone know of a fireplace which would work? Ideally, I’d route the fireplace chimney straight back, through the exterior wall and up.
Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks a lot!

I saw this setup on a recent episode of HGTV. You might try to find their website. Leave an e-mail and maybe they can come up with some info for you.
*How about using one of those flat screen TVs that are out?Terry
*Ken the fireplace extrordinair by Travis does make one that can vent horizontally....I believe you must elbow right off the top but this still allows for a built-in cabinet for t.v., stereo, aquarium, dancing girls or whatever....I know from first hand experience...they can also operate with a remote control thermostat....check them out...ask about the emberfire burner...most impressive. jon
