I have a zero clearance fireplace that I want to put something on top of the metal firebox (outside the entire box) to reflect the heat down back into the box so the granite top will not get hot. I have about a 3/4″ space (thick) to work with. Any suggestions???
I did talk to the manufacturer and they did not have a problem with this as long as the material is fireproof, but would not suggest any material.
Thanks

It seems to me that anything you insulate the firebox with will not keep the heat away from your granite, but will only trap more heat in your firebox. I would think you would want to maintain this airspace and let air circulate around the firebox to radiate heat away. This is just my opinion, I'll be interested in what other's have to offer.

*They pack a product called inswool around blast furnace for drop hammers at Vaughan & Bushnell Hammer Factory. I'm not recommending this but I'm sure that in doesn't burn. It looks similar to a burn pad that a plumber might use when soldering copper pipe.
*Thanks Guys, First there is still a air space for circulation. I'm just trying to keep the surface above it which is in this case granite from getting hot. This inswool sounds interesting where would you buy it???Thanks Lee J. BuividasBTW I live in a apartment until my home is finished and it has a zero clearance fireplace and the wood mantel sure gets very warm to almost hot and the fireplace is installed to code. I'm just trying to keep the one in my new home from getting as hot.
*Welding supply houses have large burn pads. You might be able to glue it to the bottom of the granite.
