I have a zero clearance fireplace that I want to put something on top of the metal firebox (outside the entire box) to reflect the heat down back into the box so the granite top will not get hot. I have about a 3/4″ space (thick) to work with. Any suggestions???
I did talk to the manufacturer and they did not have a problem with this as long as the material is fireproof, but would not suggest any material.
Thanks

Dear Lee,
To reflect heat, you need some shiny stuff like aluminum sheet metal.
You might also have success by insulating. Try some completely fireproof mineral stuff like vermiculite or perlite. Fiberglass batt is a no-no b/c it has plastic resin that burns.
