My client recently bought a home in which there is installed fireslate counters. However, they don’t appear to be sealed. Water does not bead on them and behind the stove the fireslate backsplash is stained. I seem to recall that there is a product specially designed to seal these counters, but I cannot recall its name and I draw blank expression from all of my local resources when I mention my situation.
Does anyone know what I am talking about? And, with respect to the backsplash, does anyone have a good idea as to how to remove the stains prior to sealing? Can fireslate be sanded? To sand it I would want to remove. Is it brittle? The area behind the stove is small, i.e. 24×30, would it make more sense to replace it than try to repair it? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks for your help.
