I’ll be doing my first mortar base floor next week. Read all the books and watched a buddy put one in. Any quick tips?

der jody.. wats a mortar base floor ?..wats it used for.. and do u put anything on top of it?
*Here are some quick thoughts:1. I use Pre-Mix Deck Mud. More expensive, but a heck of lot easier for me, and I can re-use any extra. A scoop of sand and porland cement is much cheaper but messier for me.2. I sprinkle plain dry portland cement on the tar-papered floor to soak up moisture, and help the mortar cure. I also sprinkle it on my float strip pyramid, to harden it as well, so the float strips won't move. This is a trick I was taught years ago.3. I use 2x2 16 ga. wire, which has a little bump every 6" or so to lift the wire up from the floor. It is stronger than diamond lathe, and stays up from the floor better.4. Trowel the mud very, very dry, let it cure, and then trowel it down with wood float.
