This is a line of appliances from the land down under from what I understand.
my customer chose them for dish drawers and for laundry units.
The first dryer worked fine for two days, then lost heat and went to just tumbling with no hot air.
my retailer traded me for their display model because that was the fastest way to keep the customer happy. I spent my sateirday a week ago riding the ferry to make the exchange.
The second one lasted for two or three days before doing the same.
Yes, we have power. 120V on one leg and 121 on the other leg
The retailer has since traced the problem in the returned unit to a computer type board that is malfunctioning and assumes that both units have the same problem. So he ordered two boards.
Turns out that FP cannot supply said part from anywhere in this country, so he got me another dryer. This lady has a newborn and the non-functioning dryer is getting stressfull. I will have the third dryer in two weeks tomorrow to find out if three times works the charm. If not, one very angry remodelor will be on the telephone with whatever sort of customer service rep they have.

They supposedly make the Rolls Royce of dishwashers, not sure about their other appliances. Here in NYC it is the preferred standard (along with subzero and viking) to outfit a highend kitchen.
The twin dish drawers are the tits, and the girls rave over how fast the washing machine does the clothes, but the dryer - maybe it's my luck to get the only two bad ones they made this year.it runs four minutes ( by design) then goes backwards for forty seconds, then runs another four... to make sure no tangles turn into knoted clothes...It has sensors to tell it when the clothes are dry so it can knock off for the day if you set it on auto dry. Nice energy saving feature, except that I have used more gas energy swapping things around than the machine will ever save in electricity ...So apparantly, the brain thinks the sensor is telling it that the clothes are dry so it quits making heat. He seems to think the element is OK.

Sounds like a control related device. Like you said, hopefully you just had dumb luck and got two bum ones. From what I've heard they are supposed to be reliable machines.Another excellent line of appliances are Miele - I would have got them if I could've afforded them. Maybe when the not so old Whirlpools give up the ghost....

Just be glad its not a Maytag Neptune!
I think FP are the only ones putting out the drawer type dishwasher. I have no experience with them have read in CR (for what it's worth) that reliability was an issue.
Well, it has certainly been an issue with the dryers. I spent an hour studying the manual today to be absolutely certain it is being used right before calling them again tomorrow. It is a high tech item so it could be tempermental according to how it is used... but it seems less than adequate so far. The paper warrantee is for two years, but more ink is used describing what it does not cover. If nop satisfaction on this one, she can get money back but then we are stuck with two different brands of washer and dryer sitting next to each other. If the dish drawers should break down, there is no o5ther recours, the kitchen is designed around them. Would take a lot of extra labor to revamp cabinets to allow regular installation of another

I've been loosely following this thread..........
Techy client of mine had problems with a Dacor Micro. One of these fancy jobs with a little screen and a talking man and voice!!
Circuit board is what went bad. he almost talked them into sending to him for replacement, but decided against it and he had to wait for a service tech to come out to do the plug in.
I'll guess your dryer may have similiar issues. these things are basically the appliance that we are used to, all jazzed up with a small computer to run them. Throw in some heat, moisture and lots of vibration and, well you can guess the rest.
If enough crap out in similiar fashion, it should not be long till they have a fix.
I've had clients tell me they've gotten cold called from man. reps. telling them that they need to have such and such part replaced on their appliance, can we please set up an appointment.
Good luck.

Is that from Fisher Paykel or generally?I googled FP + cust service and came up with half a dozen other places for soundijhng off about FP. Lots of motherboards goine bad and that is what the problem is with the first two we had. No parts available so we now have a third machine. ( I managed to ding the cabinet on the way up the stairs the last time too, dang it all) what's with this no parts available? Some of those other forums had a lot of that, people waiting for weeks and weeks for backordered parts...What a way to run a business!way high tech means more things to go wrong but can mean easier to fix when a company is interested in taking care of their customers, but that is not what I am seeing yet.

Sounds like a hoot!! I'd be thinkin' of tossing that sucker out the window by now.
On the lighter side, this sounds strikingly similiar to some threads I've read in the bus. folder dealing with customer spec'd products............so how are you taking this?
Maybe you can offer to do the laundry for a couple of weeks!! lol!

Why not a Maytag Neptune?
My client has specified that in her new home.

They supposedly make the Rolls Royce of dishwashers
Certainly priced that way when first released.
I have to be skeptical about their quality, now that they are i nthe Lowe's appliance section, though . . . Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
I've heard horror stories about maintainance costs on Rolls Royces...;)

How about the Bosch washer and dryer that Lowe's sells?

Bosch washer and dryer that Lowe's sells?
I always assumed it was rebranded to hit Lowe's sales points.
I could be wrong, too. That post, twentysome odd back that FP has some rebranded appliances may explain some of it, too.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
rebranded to hit Lowe's sales points.
Our FP came from Lowe's. Tried to get them from the locally owned appliance store but availability was an issue. The manager heard about it. Identical price. Far as I could discern, identical product.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
We're delighted with the FP washer/dryer we have. But I understood the dryer was made domestically, unfortunately don't remember who. We have little use for a dryer, but have had no problem. The washer is fantastic.
PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
The F&P repair guy mentioned the same about their washers, in that they are manufactured by someone else. That is until recently. Apparently they have a new model just out that is made by F&P and supposedly as good as the washer.
You are making me nervous. F-P is what my client has specified for the dishwasher (drawers.)
Please report back when you have the problem solved, and tell us the details.
Sting,
I've read on this forum and a couple of other places about FP dish drawers having hose problems in about year 3, soon after the warranty goes. I wanted the drawers but was hesitent. Kitchen-aid just came out with a set of dishwasher drawers so thats the route we went based on past positve experience with their products. 1 month and the wife loves them.

i've been using the fp dish drawer for over a year now. absolutely no problems. it was a more difficult to install than the average dish washer. it runs so quietly, sometimes it's hard to tell if it's on. and it looks really cool!
I had the same kind of comment on quietenesss from several Asko DWs that I installed in previous years. One client told me that it was so quiet that they keep openning the door to see if it was working or not

Hi Paul...sorry bout' the headache...better you than me though...LOL.
Don't know about the dishwasher cause I installed the Bosch here about six moths ago and I too sometimes never know if its still on its so quite. Fantastic dishwasher but kinda costly at over a grand.
I have the Fisher dryer and love it. No problems at all (yet) thank god cause my Maytag wasn't tits...LOL...was horses ####... andhad to dump one that was just over a year and just past the warrenty..Was a computer board thing that costs more than the whole washer grrrrrrr%$^@#&^**&*(*$

Those Asko DWs cost around a grand or so. had one of them lose a computer board that cost over six hundred to replace, just off warrantee.

I've had a double dish drawer for a year without any problems. When I'm around other peoples machines now they seem so clumsy. I would not trade back to a regular one, even though I feel that it could be improved upon. I feel that for $1100 the interior should be stainless, rather than plastic. Some interior parts should have a heavier duty feel than they do also. But to me it's a worthwhile tradeoff for the much better design. I did a lot of research before buying and there were some very negative reviews of this machine. Further research showed that the newer model number had some of the problems fixed. This was about a year ago, so units a lot older than that have some differences. I figured that if it should break I could handle doing dishes by hand while waiting for parts. It really is 2 mechanically separate machines so if one fails the other should work anyway. I have not seen the kitchen aid drawer style machine, but if it existed when I was looking I would have taken a serious look at it.
In general I prefer to buy domestic products though, and parts are one good reason to. It's like this for cars too. We have a Chevy Celebrity, and a VW Vanagon most of the Chevy parts are under $50 and can be bought anywhere, the Vanagon has parts that seem to run about $250++. The VW parts usually take a few days to get by mail order and are not stocked locally.
that is more than just the dometic vs foreign marketing thi8ng, though. Take an Oldsmobile version of that Chevy and the same parts will cost $250I know, we drive olds

The wash basin inside the clothes washer can easily dent the outer panel if you tip the washer quickly. The outer panel will show the dent.
The threads that attach the hoses to the machine are european. They are very similar to american threads. If you switch them out for braided stainless as we always do, they will leak verrrry slowly no matter how much you tighten them down. kWhen you replace them I guess you will have to use hoses that are supplied by them. Merican on one end and european on the other end. aaaaarrrrgh!
Grohe faucets have the two type threads two. irritating
find same thing with Kohler and Kallista

We purchased their top load washer earlier this year when our old machine went out. Since that time we have seen a drop in our monthly water bill from $90 to $75, so a pretty substantial savings to say the least.
We've had one problem in six months that was easily fixed. My youngest left a small chain in his pocket and it clogged the pump intake. Repairman came out the next day, fixed the unit then showed me how to do so the next time something gets left in a pocket.
So far its been a great product.
and All,I noticed the instructions were very specific with the washer and dryer both that nothing metal should go into either because of potentuial damage to the machine. This one that has given me nightmares is the new one just introduced this year. We are now on the third one. by thursday, she informed me that it was still not drying properly. I double checked everything from my end, because when I looked objectively at things, three dryeers in the same hole suggests there is something about the setup foiling the install. but all systems are fine. It worked fine for two days, then ...It still gets warm but not hot, suggesting that either the board brain is out again, or that an element is gone - there are more than one elements in the machine. So I called again and my dealer suggested another FP machine. He said it has been around for 4-5 years and no problems with it. It has the FP nameplate but is made by GE. I told him to order it in and I will make the exchange tuesday when I haved to go over for a dentist apt. Then - egads! On Friday PM, she tells me that a certain combination of buttons seems to now get the darn machine to heat up! I baby sat the blasted thing thjrough two loads with both of the highest settings I could find and still no go, but now this, with no other change in the system...count me confused...we'll see if it is still drying come monday. Maybe this machine is homone driven
