I am looking at a project that involves replacing a flat roof over a bump out addition. The roof can be accessed from a door in the bedroom. Since it can be accessed from the house, there is a wrought iron railing system which also supports a roof above it. I am including a new rail system, 4×4 posts etc. in my price. What is the best way to flash around the posts? I remember an article in FHB many years ago which outined using copper flashing soldered together. Is there a method that is simpler than that?
Thanks in advance.

There are lots of simpler methods. None of them work very well. You didn't say what type of roof you're flashing so it's hard to give much help.
I'm not green anymore.
I am plannining on using GAF Liberty, which is a 2 part self adhering system. Thanks.

Skip the 2 part system and go right to EPDM......install, zip tape around posts, lay sleepers over EPDM then install nice decking. One solid sheet,no seams is the best way to go.
Ditto Thumper, but for extra protection trim out your 4x4 posts with 1x stock and a cap. That protect the uncured rubber "zip strip" and looks better than a PT post.

Mike,
I was planning on using cedar posts, but I like your idea of wrapping the posts with 1x. That would be a cleaner look as far as the flashing is concerned. Thanks.
In regards to the EPDM, I only need about 1.3 square; so my supplier thinks that the Liberty product will be the more practical choice.
