I hesitate to mention it because it involves cutting a kerf a fraction of an inch deep on the top edge. The zee shaped flashing fits into the kerf and goes horizontally twords the building and then up behind the siding where it is hidden.
The idea is to keep water from traveling along the top of the joist into the building. Unfortunatly, it weakens the joist at the most critical point of the cantilever. Beware.
I assume the decking is wood boards laid flat, spaced for drainage, rather than a membrane type deck on plywood or concrete.
