What type of metal should I use for flashing on an 87 year old metal roof? I assume this is a terne metal roof. Flat soldered seams in a retangular pattern. Metal is stamped, Scotts Extracoated 40.
Am, concerned about galvanic action and need advice.

I'm assuming you're talking about counter flashing (the piece that tucks into the masonry).
If the old terne is painted (which I'm sure it is or it wouldn't be 87 years old), then you can use about anything. Terne is a lead/tin alloy. Lead/tin solder is used to solder copper, so copper or lead coated copper would be OK. Terne II is a zinc/tin alloy so its ok. Galvanized is OK, Aluminum is OK. Pre-finnished steel is OK.

The roof is over a 1 story kitchen and joins a 2 story frame house. The original roof goes up behind the clapboards. Over the years, people have added some tar along one side. Along the top, and over and under a window sill, they had put a metal flashing that was rusting.
When the painters pressure washed, this metal flashing came up from being stuck to the roof. So did the vent boot. Someone came and put on a new vent boot with an aluminum base, stuck it on with wide rubbery tape that has aluminum on the topside.
He then put some thin aluminum where the rusting heavy metal had been. It is too short to go up under the siding board and the caulk he used is not holding it to the metal roof.
Yes the roof has paint on it.
There are also 3 nail holes right thru the roof, whatever was in them vanished during the washing also. How do I fix them?

If you've got a roofing supply store locally, see if they carry Geocel products. If they do, use Geocel 2300 caulk to fill the holes and then paint over the patches. If Geocel is not available locally, use another type of paintable caulk.Birth, school, work, death.....................
