Client needs a basement entry door, as basement’s about 8′ below ground. I’ve pointed them to Bilco’s PermEntry, with the precast stairs and the 22″ rise on the sloped door. But noooooooooooo, that’s not good enough. They want a door that’s flat and ground level…nothing to step around and nothing dirt can get into. They countered with a Bilco model that’s a vault enrty door. I have a request in to the Bilco rep for price and limitations…guessing that’s gonna price way out of their budget. I also think they will have a problem shedding water, etc, but at the moment they’re being of the “we want what we want” mindset.
Any other ideas or products or perspectives I’m missing?

We can imagine something that only exists in our heads, in a form that has no measureable, tangible reality, and make it actually occur in the real world. Where there was nothing, now there is something.

just have them install a drain grill and forget the door. no problems with drainage that way, LOL
Seriously, I can't imagine doing this without creating problems, and it will be even harder if this is in snow country, with ice to destroy it over time or freeze it shut. Any chance they will ever need this for emergency egress?
The problems could be designed away, but only at great cost. As a builder, my question to them would be, "How many thousands of dolars would you like to budget to this request?"
