Plan to have our dormer’s ‘flat’ roof tore off with a modified bitumen install on our 1.5 story home. Pitch is 1.5/12 and area is 160 s.f. with a couple of ‘tall boy roof vents. Flat roof ties into shingled roof at two points. Two questions:
1. What is an approximate price in the Chicago area from a licensed/insured roofer?
2. What are some important details to look for in the installation process?
Thank you in advance.

You want to find the most qualified roofer first. Talk to friends and others who they have used and recommend. Here in Calif. I go to the Contractors State License Board to find out who the bad ones are. I don't know how Illinois is set up. Get the three best recommendations to come out look at your job and ask how they will do the job be specific in your questions. Answers should be detailed. Get their quotes. I personally never take the lowest unless I have used that contractor before.
