Going to be finishing some wood stairs. Would you finish the stairs differently from the stringers. The stringers will be lacquered or varnished. Wouldn’t the stairs be finished with something like urethane? Or would varnish be just as durable?

Make that a polyurethane..floor finish for the treads, and what ever ya like for the rest.
Thanks...finish the treads first and then the stringers? Would you recommend spraying the polyurethane?
It really does not matter what order you finish the treads or stringers..treads tho' I would start at the top and work down so ya don't get stuck upstairs..or another way is do every other one and let dry, then come back and finish the rest.BtDT. Spray poly? I useually don't..too messy inside..brush thee thin (no sag) coats..and yer all set.
