I’m installing a couple of 5/8″ prefinished bamboo floors (Teragren/Timbergrass), 500 sq feet and 750 sq ft. I’ve only installed 3/4″ cherry and used a Bostitch stapler. I’m leaning towards buying the Bostitch stapler since it seems less likely to split the bamboo. Any opinions out there? Are cleats “better” for some reason. I know the staples are a beatch to pull out.

Greetings FC,
This post, in response to your question, will bump the thread through the 'recent discussion' listing again.
Perhaps it will catch someones eye that can help you with advice.
Or you may want to try reposting in the 'Tools For Homebuilding' folder.

I would lean toward the nailer. But you can probably get a better response at hardwoodinstaller.com They have a discussion forum similar to this which I have found to be helpful.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
Thanks for the link, it's a great site. As it turns out, with so much OSB in use today, I'm better off with the increased holding power of staples.
We use the bostich stapler. Make sure the foot on the pneumatic nailer is of the proper size. For bamboo, turn the pressure down to 60 pounds and test some shots. Gradually increase pressure till the staple is fully in the tongue, but not splitting. We ran about 68/70 with trouble free installation. Keep about 3" from the ends.

Thanks, that's the one I rented before. I assume I can improvise a shim if necessary to bury the staple properly? The flooring I got is 5/8ths.
FC,I rented a stapler to put down 5/8" bamboo, and just taped a cardboard shim to the foot of the tool. Works fine. Ditto what Calvin said, otherwise.Bill
I've put a lot of 5/8" bamboo down. I use a pneumatic nailer. I've never had splitting problems...just stay back 4 to 6 inches from the ends, like any other flooring.
I don't use OSB...if I did, I'd probably consider a stapler.
