Has anybody installed a floor outlet? I want some in our 16 by 20 living room and I’m not sure where to put them – any guidelines on that? |

Takes some thought on the location because it could limit furniture placement. In two remodels, we had the luxury of access from below. The families lived w/o for a while, moved the furniture around till they found the layout they liked. We placed all of them under the end table locations. We also used the good brass screw in covered boxes. Plastic just won't hold up. 90 deg plug ends kept the cord low profile.

I thought you already knew where you wanted them that's why you asked for floor receptacles.
Think through you furniture placements and be aware of future rearrangement possibilities. If you are not sure do what the previous poster suggested.
Bear in mind that depending on the flooring, relocating a floor receptacle is not going to be as easy as relocating a wall receptacle.
There are flush and angled mounts available.
time for a good electrician.
Mine would walk ya thru the placement and give his expert advice.
when it comes to locations ... he thinks of stuff that'd never cross my mind ....

You need an exact furniture plan to make floor outlets work. I've done them several times and they're a pain. Get your hands on all of the parts, rough and trim, and see exactly how it goes together before you make a move. Rough it in wrong and it will never trim out nicely. Last job I had them on they went in a slab with tile over them. The foreman and the electrician miscommunicated slightly about the finish floor height and were grinding each other's faces off toward the end of the job, trying to make those things trim out. Ugh. Go to a good electrical wholesaler and buy all the parts there.
One job we put them on also had a butler button in the floor in the library. Owner could move his slipper a bit to the right and call his house man from his armchair. Rough-in was the same as for the outlets.
