wood flooring dilema. water damage to a wood floor, approx 100s/f out of 1200s/f. it’s a floating wood floor (mohawk longstrip) about 2.5 years old. the reason my customer chose it was to match her new cherry kitchen cabinets, it is distinctly red. the wood species is merbau and it was sold as manderin merbau. it looked great.
the problem is, i can’t get any service from either mohawk or lowes (dealer). after a month of sending samples, going through “managers” and making futile calls to tech services. they tell me “it’s a natural product and color variations are to be expected”. the “golden oak” colored boards they sent are as close as it comes. the best and only solution lowes gave me was to replace the whole floor.
sorry for being so long winded but how can i give quality service if i can’t get fundamental service from these clowns? what to do?
thanks in advance, allen
here is a link to the floor, the color matches lowes’ showroom sample.

Did you install the floor originally, or have you just been called in to fix the problem?
Not familiar with that species. Does it darken with age like real cherry? Maybe take the sample they gave you and expose it to some strong uv lamps to quicken the aging.
There is a very good wood floor forum at hardwoodinstaller.com. Maybe someone there will have a better idea.

i did install this floor and repairing it is no biggie, i've already removed the damaged flooring. when i opened the boxes of new boards is when i realized the color wasn't near close enough. i knew they wouldn't be an exact match but i did expect them to be close to their sample.
what i want is a method to get some kind action from these corporations. they are blowing me off because 100 s/f of material is nothing to them. they (mohawk) still sell this flooring and advertize it in the color i need. i just need advise on dealing with the big box effectivley without loosing my cool.

This doesn't do you any good now, but it is another reason to stay away from these stores for anything special.A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.
