I’ve removed the old parquet flooring which was installed over the old vinyl flooring. In pulling up the old parquet some of the old vinyl came up with the old glue. Naturally, the floor is now spotted with partical vinyl, some the vinyl’s backing and subfloor. I’m now chipping off the vinyl topping leaving only the white backer.
Questions – is there an easier way to get the vinyl up?
the floor’s surface varies very little (about 1/8 to 1/16th of inch) with the mix of backer and subfloor is this too much of a variance? If it is what is the common solution?
Thanks,

Too much of a variance for what,Martin? The answer will depend on what you plan to do next. If you are planning another wood floor, you have probably gone far enough.

*Thanks James. My parents want to have parquet again.
*Martin, if there's underlay under that vinyl: Set your saw the depth of the underlay w/o going through to the sub-floor. Score the underlay (be prepared for nails/staples --protective eyewear etc) and then pull it up. Remove all the latent staples/nails or nail them down and re-underlay for glue down parquet. Coulda done it to the parquet/vinyl combo. Would have been easier than chipping the tiles out (if they were glued down with that tenacious black adhesive). Best of luck.........or go over what you got w/ more underlay. Not as good a job than taking it out and starting over. Look in a hvac hole and decide whats best.
