Hi there , I would like some advice . I have to install about 700 square feet of 3/8 by 2 inch wide white oak strip floor on a pine sub floor . Which would be the better fastener to use Stanley -Bostich 2″ staples or the cleats? used in the porta -nailer type gun?Unfortunately, mostly it will laid in the same direction as the sub floor.Any advice with this would be greatly appreciated

More Input,
3/8 with a 2" staple? Why are you running parallel to the sub-floor, or do you mean joists? What condition is the pine in, is it stable or is it subject to alot of movement? Will the floor run with the light coming in? How do you feel about gluing it down. assuming this is a laminated product? Prefinished ?
??????
Here is some additional information 3/8 ,unfinished, solid white oak flooring. The pine sub floor is 105 years old and tight to the joists .It has been screwed down with 3" No 10 screws and where needed extra 2x material sistered to the joists and the sub floor screwed and glued with construction adhesive to the sisters . The house is a long narrow Victorian ,fairly dark.To run the floor at right angles to the sub floor doesn't look as attractive and the direction of the floor would be across the direction of walking. What light there is would generally be in the direction of the sub floor
Enough said, you should be able to nail down the product as you wish, as to cleats or nails, you will probably have a myriad of opinions on that, even from the suppliers of the fasteners, they will differ in their answers, I know that because I asked before, might want to put a call into the local installers, I have heard that some think in high humidity areas the staples are too tight?
Hope this helps.
Thanks very much for the help, I will check around
