   Some of the fitness places use large sheets of rubber flooring.  I think if it was my place, I'd just buy the interlocking kind.  Go together like a jigsaw puzzle.

   I did it for a friend.  He was on a tight budget (what else is new) and we just used the interlocking kind.  Bought it at BJ's warehouse club.  It has held up well for two years now and gets walked/exercised on almost everyday by he and his wife.  It's not nearly as heavy duty as the stuff they use in gyms. I believe the cost was about $10 per package.  Each package had six 2'X2' pieces for a total of 24sq feet.

   After I did it, it felt so good underfoot i decided to get some for a shop area I have in a basement with concrete floor.  I went to BJ's and bought the rest they had, but it wasn't enough to do the whole area.  Went to Walmart and bought enough to finish(it was slightly more expensive there, but not alot).  It looked like the same stuff but the interlocking pattern did not fit exactly the same.  I made it fit (sort of) with a knife but it doesn't look as smooth or elegant as does the gym floor.  Bottom line . . . if you go this route, get enough to finish the whole room.

   Also I've only seen the cheap stuff in black.  It makes the shop floor kind of dark compared to concrete, but my feet will easily take the tradeoff.  The shop floor has held up great, vacuums easily, and if I eventually ruin a section, I could (if I had more sections) just lift it out and replace it with a new one.  The better quality stuff comes in a rainbow of colors.
