Hello everyone.<!—-><!—-> <!—->
I am in the process of looking for a new home. One has caught my eye, it is a little bit of a fixer-upper (the best kind)! It needs new siding big time. I am very interesting in the foam backed vinyl siding. Couple questions.<!—-> <!—->
1. Does anyone have this on their house (or have installed it)? I assume it looks as good as regular vinyl siding. Can you feel the increase in R-value? Any drawbacks?<!—-><!—->
2. From some quick research on the net, it appears to be roughly $200/square (1 square = 100 sq. ft). Does this sound right?<!—-> <!—->
3. I have a good idea of the labor in my area. How long would it take a 2 man crew to install this type of siding on a 2-Story 24×34 Colonial?<!—-><!—->
I need to est. the cost so I can figure the proper asking price. Just don’t have any experience with siding yet. Thanks for the help.<!—-> <!—->

The purpose of the foam is to stiffen the siding and make it look a little sharper. It provides relatively little additional insulating value, especially in windy conditions, since air can fairly easily penetrate behind it.

Put some up this winter it was a triple 6" panel and it went up quick. As for installation time depends on the guys running it. 10 square a day in Michigan this time of year with all the trim work and one other man is what I was pulling off. I think the price was $120-140 a square w/o any of your trim.
Thanks everyone. I am estimated $200/square to include some trim work also. I thought I read that the foam back vinyl increases the R-value of the wall by 3-5.

The fact that the foam has an R value of X does not mean that it increases the wall's R value by that much.
If ignorance is bliss why aren't more people
