Just tried foam paint rollers for the first time, using SW alkyd Proclassic on trim, and the results are AMAZING! I was debating having the trim sprayed, but the foam roller leaves a very similar finish and of course doesn’t need to be back-brushed, so application is much faster than brushing & rolling. And I didn’t need to do all of the masking that spraying would have required. Unbelievably smooth and even finish.
If you haven’t already tried them, definitely do.

We've used them in the past. The finish is pretty good. Did you use any of the paint additives that allow the paint to lay better? That should get you real smooth.
Family.....They're always there when they need you.
Didn't use any additives--paint store said not to and I've heard mixed reviews. I'll give it a try, though. Thanks.
I felt that way until I used Floetrol. Then I wondered why the hell the stuff doesn't come with Floetrol in it in the first place.
Its also likely that its not the roller at all, but the oil-based paint. Its amazing how well alkyds smooth out.
Politics is the antithesis of problem solving.
y'all are luckey to be able to get oil paint. Only way we get it now is in quarts at about 6x's the cost.
You would have been even more amazed if you had tried BM Latex Impervo with a dash of Floetrol !
