foundation choices

I am considering using pilings as my foundation in order to save money but, what are the energy concerns of this choise?  I live in the north Ga area.  Also, are there structural draw backs to this choise?

    I've built houses on pilings, but only when the're on a steep hillside in a woods. You do have to seriously consider plumbing/drains etc. for freezing..   and the insulation problem. And the local codes concerning such. .......Normal houses should have at least a crawl space under them IMO. 

    There are fast carpenters who care..... there are slow carpenters who care more.....there are half fast carpenters who could care less......
