Foundation types used for terraced properties on clay soil
Hi Folks
I was wondering if someone might be able to help answer my question about foundations used on clay soil. If you had row of 10 terraced properties, with the usual expansion joints between each house. What sort of foundations would typical be used?
Would strip foundations be used? and if so, how they would they typically be used in the design?
Sorry for the novice questions.
Thanks in advance.

In the case of terraced properties on clay soil, strip foundations are commonly used. These foundations are continuous concrete footings under the load-bearing walls, distributing the building's weight evenly to prevent settling issues. The design considers factors like soil conditions, load, and local codes for a stable foundation. Consulting a structural engineer is a wise step for site-specific recommendations.
