I’ve seen clamps like this in all sorts of woodworking catalogs and such, thought they might be nice for assembling face frames and the ilk. Has anybody tried them? feedback?

I made something similar when I was doing picture frames years ago. They're pretty easy to make.
I used wood bars instead of the alum, drilled a series of holes for the corner blocks, and put it all together.
And yes, they were handy for assembling frames.
Ordinarily I would say just use a strap clamp or screw scrap strips to the bench to make a jig. But the squaring function does look interesting. They weren't that expensive, go for it and tell us how it goes.
Wrong answer sly. He should buy about 15-20 sets and send them to us for testing.

You're right, by George. Justin, better set up an extensive test out here in BC, get that unique western view of things....Lignum est bonum.
we use a cheap strap clamp for glueing up mitered cabinet doors
clamping pressure should be used to "close" a miter, the joint will eventually fail, check the miter cuts carefully before glueup
clamping presure should be adequete just to sqeeze out a little glue and no more, pin nails are not required
some days we clamp 50 or more doors, so joint failure is not an option
Justin, I have tried many different frame clamps, this being one of them. I could not get enough pressure with this clamp, it was a waste of money. The best one that I found is this one:

It is the same price and workes much better. Your miter cuts should square it up for you. If the cuts are bad the clamp is not going to help make it square.
Parrot et al,
Thanks for the input guys, I'm still weighing it out though. Gotta save some of that scratch for a new portable table saw!Justin Fink - FHB Editorial
I agree with Parrothead - the bessy is the best. I have 4 and have gotten rid of the others I bought before the bessy.
