I had a good idea how i wanted it… but it turned out “LARGE”
top seating area is 84″ above floor level… is 92″ deep (booth seating and large closet under it) and 17ft wide… going down from there i drop 14″ at each drop and each deck is 42″ deep by the 17ft wide… i have a total of 6 seating decks (counting the wide top one… i have 7’6″ of headroom at the back of the top deck… the ceiling slants up from there 18″ heading to the “screen wall” which is 37ft from the back wall…
i site built 5…. 17ft x 14″ deep box beams to carry each seating deck and to act as the 14″ riser with each higher deck sitting on top of the beam and each deck below attached to the face of same…. on one side they all attach to a 24″ thick masonary wall that has my garage on the other side of it and are on posts on the other side with no attachment to a wall that is common to a guest suite and workout & sauna room…
when on the top deck looking down/eye level at the screen wall it has a wow factor…… the effect of the rising ceiling and the dropping floor is pretty impressive
oh well thats what i did today 🙂

Wow, talk about stadium seating!
I did a similar one a couple years ago, not as big, about 20' x 30'. Seated 12 in reclining leather seats, 110" projector screen.
What're you planning on for equipment? That size you could go IMAX!
planning? man i never plan... :) i build around... I removed a couple years ago from a local casino a projection unit they used for the pay per view fights i'm sure it's old school now... but i did get a 20ft electric screen with it... that i know i can cut down to the 12ft wide i think i'll need...
the projector i have is a panisonic... (sp) and i saw where they paid like 40k for it... and it showed on the 20ft screen in a room that wasn't that dark... so it might still be good... if not i'll be hunting ebay.... i have some bass cabinets that will install below the seating... alot of amps ect... hope i can talk one of my techie friends into thinking this out for me... when i use to build nightclubs i stashed away alot of lighting... lazers... amps... control boards... lots of disco & stage stuff... figured on a small stage for the kids... i have about 14ft from the 1st raised section to the screen wall...
not something i was even plan'n on building out YET but... waiting on a few things to clear the inspectors... and i had material on hand so it was use it or move it somewhere... plus i need a condensate drain for the rooftop units in the screen wall which is also the back wall for the consession stand/bar.... so....
looks like i can get 8 theater seats per landing... on my small/shallow landings (40 total) and i have a few really cool art deco vegas style booths for the top wide landing... so maybe 50 total seating?

Pony, small isn't even on your radar, is it?
You do big.....and bigger.
Sounds cool!PJ
Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.
"Hey, you wanna see my 50-seat home theater?"
The one I did had a big woofer under the stadium seats. Whole thing shakes and rumbles and probably makes ladies wet themselves.
You gonna have velvet curtains? You have to have velvet curtains.
Talk to the Blue Note theater in Columbia, Missouri. They seat about 25-30 and SRO is about 50, but their movie list... schedule... venue...Anyway, they stay pretty much sold out.SamT
Butt Kickers!!!!
they make a big difference. you really feel the percussion. you might need to order plates to mount them when you purchase your seating, or do like I did and have them made to order. my brother owns a machine shop.
also, i made the screen curtains from mdf. many layers getting smaller, routed edge. really cool actually. no one knows they're not real
then there's the chair rail with a hidden continuous black light....
Sweet. Pictures?

i know i suck at pictures....
dude i don't even have a phone that takes em.... i know i suck...
it's just at the framed and just starting to deck it... but i had to climb my butt up on the highest platform... (framed all from the ground) just to get the "feel" must say.... pretty dang large feel'n....
i had the room and it's always been in my plans... but i just really didn't have any concept of how it would feel... and i didn't know the effect the rise'n of the ceiling with the drop'n of the floor would have....
the room is over 2x as deep as it is wide and taller than it is wide... so the effect is pretty cool..... but so unplanned...
hope all is well with your new house i've been follow'n the threads... and keep'n up...
i'll work on the pics also... guess i need about 50 to cover my posts with nothing but my very lacking word skills for descripions

My future plans on the new house call for a small home theater. I can do it either in the basement, or in the Bonus room above the garage. Haven't decided which. I can get some pretty good deals on equipment. I was in our local ADI store the other day. They had a 60 something inch plasma on sale for somewhere around two grand. Plus the company I work for has a company that does that ####. They have plenty of speakers and #### laying around that I can get cheap.
That is if I don't put a boot up someones keaster. If you've been following the Tyvek thread you know I'm getting pretty steamed with the builder.

There is an issue with sound involving the length and width of rooms. I think you want to avoid even multiples. Anyway, be sure to check the sound issue out before you fully commit to length.
Sounds cool but come on man if Frenchy can learn to post a picture anybody can!
