Hello, I am planning to build a bathroom in my basement, since the space is limited I need to size everthing carefully. After leaving 30″ for a toilet, I want to install a 32″ shower on the same wall. My question is there a standard rough opening for a 32″ shower stall. I plan on using a two or 3 piece shower stall. Should I also include an extra 1″ for drywalling (with green board) the entire alcove before placing the shower stall?
Thanks
Dan

Most premade stalls are attached directly to the framing, and the drywall sets down over the lip around the edges. You need to find the shower unit you plan to install, and prep the rough opening accordingly- there's no "standard" dimension that I'm aware of.

Dan buy the unit first. Measure and re-measure the dimensions. Then very accurately frame for the unit. Use kiln dried lumber. Then install the unit.
