I want to build a breakfast nook as part of the renovation of a 1929 Bungalow which will require framing a short wall out from an existing wall into the room. The floor has 6″ tiles that were installed over the original ceramic tile floor (probably on a thick bed of cement). This adds up to alot of hard surface. Would you simply lag the bottom plate throgh this flooring or go ahead and try to saw out the floor for the “drop in” framed wall. If I don’t cut out the floor I just wonder if I’ll be hunted down some day if a future owner tries to pull up the floor only to find he has to also pull out the wall to get it out. How would you cut it out anyway? Would really appreciate knowing what you suggest.

I would just lay it on top. drill through at grout lines and fasten. if you need to rmove, you can unscrew the fasteners you put through the grout lines.
*I agree with Bill . If they decide to pull up the tile later on then they can use a chisel to bust the tile out against the wall.Dave
*You might want to consider using a stand off for the bottom of that partition wall. Tight fastening (even through the grout jt.) on that tile could crack it. If the partition ends at a post, hang the weight of the wall off it and the wall. Stand off the fastening pt of the post at a joint. Just a thought.
*Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment but I would cut the tile with a diamond blade & a roto zip. I'd be afraid of the tile failling & causing a VERY expensive call back.
